New cellphone, the amazing Nokia E61

My new phone arrived this afternoon and after about an hour and a half it was fully charged. I was initially not that impressed with its size (it looked smaller in the pictures).

After finding the right certificate and disabling the right security options my Mail for Exchange was operational 100 percent (seems the phone does not have a percent button).

I plan to post more on it later, I am just very tired now and off to sleep - my eyes are too sore from scrutinising the screen.

Gears of War

I was stuck, but now I am not anymore. I not stuck anymore, thanks to Clayton. He got past a point I was stuck at for a few hours. I was going to call in two buddies of mine, Neil and Aubrey, but they where both too chicken to put their skillz to the test. A 15 year old beat them to it and now I am past where I was.

This game is totally killer, its tit baby !!

Love it

Cricket World Cup starts

Driving into the office yesterday (the start of the Cricket World Cup), I saw an advert on the side of the road - those newspaper ones - which said "Man offers kidney for Cricket World Cup ticket". I thought to myself, how absurd. How stupid does one need to be to sell their kidney (or any other organ) for a ticket to the Cricket World Cup!

Then I had a long think while I was at the office about what would it take for me to offer an organ up for sale. I think I'd offer up a kidney for R250k - definitely. Think about it, you could pay some serious debt off, buy a cool car for cash, go on a world tour, etc, etc. AND you would also help someone in need - I see this as a win-win situation here.

Think about it, how much would you sell an organ for?

Long time updating

Shew, its been some time since I last posted anything here. A lot has been happening in my life since the last post. Let me recap quickly, before dropping down into the details:
  • Work issues around suppliers and monopolies
  • Gears of War for the Xbox 360
  • PC gaming
  • Action cricket
OK, Work issues. We have a supplier we have been dealing with for the past 8 or so years, and we general get two services from them. First is they run our Service Desk and secondly, we body-shop about 5 resources from them, which we manage and control (its not as harsh as it sounds). The issue with these guys is that they have been been telling us that they are front ending CA (Computer Associates) to our organization (and the also telling CA) and that they have arranged this exclusivity; they have this from my IT Director. Bullshit! I spoke to the IT Director and he's like "what the hell, no ways". so now I am the BAD PERSON for bring this to light - but fuck em!

Gears of War for the Xbox 360 is absolutely killer. Unfortunately, I suck at this type of game, not having mastered the Xbox 360 controller. But boy, I am impressed, the graphics are really awesome, the game smooth and whats REALLY impressed me was how easy it was to play Multiplayer. This was compounded by the fact that the online experience from South Africa was amazingly fast, there was no lag whatsoever.

PC Gaming. Well what can I say, I got stuck into a crappy game for many hours over the weekend as well playing some game, Midway Battles, or some such - can't even remember, but it was good. Lots about 8 or so hours to this game on Sunday afternoon/evening.

Action cricket. Played our last social for the near future, we are all winding down and the game is taking its toll on everyone concerned. With the Cricket World Cup around the corner (like in two days time), we have decided to call for a long break or they must find a completely new team to play against as we are all tired. We played against our Finance department and whipped their asses for the second time in a row - it was fantastic - but after about 9 or so months on the trop (with a small break in December), we look like the walking wounded. So we ended on a high, injuries all round and free beer at the end, but we KICKED FINANCE ASS!!

Later all, time to shower and then some more Gears of War - then REST and sleep.

Carnivale TV Show

Well, last night, I finally decided to get my eyes hooked into Carnivale. They only made two seasons of this show form HBO, and I have all of them. So I put it on just to watch the first episode, but my god, it is addictive!! I eneded up forcing myself to press the stop button and crawling into bed at 2am this morning. I was dead tired, not from lack of sleep - but because my mind had been through the wringer. It was made to work overtime taking in all of the stuff in the first 6 episodes of this show!

I suggest that whomever reads this - takes a look at this TV show and makes a plan to get their hands on it ASAP and WATCH IT.

Golfing sunday.

Well, my 2nd round of 18 holes at the King David golf club was planned two weeks in advance. Due to some over-eager marshall trying to make our first round of golf at the same golf club a complete nightmare, we managed to secure a free round (about R360 per person) and a free golf cart (R150 per two people).

Well, I was a little late, and had to speed to get there on time (about 180 km/h all the way there), and the weather was threatening to rain on us. I didn't have an umbrella and I had to borrow my 15 year old's school raincoat. So I was set, even with the bad weather looming.

When I enquired what was going to happen if it rains, do we still play or is it cancelled, I was told "it never rains on a golf course". So there you have it - we where safe :)

Well, it did rain, on us, in golf carts, without the normal plastic windscreens, so when we rode forward the rain was in our faces. I went with two friends of mine, Ricardo (14 handicap and the most seasoned golfer I know) and Rustim, who like me, started the same time, bought our clubs the same time and had the same "unofficial" handicap of 24 (thats where everyone started). Another long time friend of mine, Ian, had injured his back and was not up to making it - too sore to drive and therefor play golf.

I had some awesome shots with my driver, hit the ball damn far (according to Ricardo) and I got two par holes (a par hole is if you match the number of shots required to get to the hole, not over, called a bogie, nor under, called a birdie or eagle).

It was a great round of golf and Ricardo helped us to get to grips with the many rules around a golf course. I finished it off with loosing the scorecard - a complete fuckup on my part *shrug*. I'll pay more attention next time - promise :-)

BTW, golf stands for "Gentleman Only Ladies Forbidden" - interesting :)

Crappy support from MWEB business

Well, I recently ran into the really bad and crappy support services of MWEB business. I am almost tempted to write a bitching letter to www.hellopeter.com, but the person that experienced the bad service will kill me :)

MWEB's total disregard for customer services is shocking and I am amazed that they are able to get away with it. If it wasn't for an someone I know that works there that could cut through the crap and actually fix the problem, we would still be experiencing shocking customer service!

Forced sick leave - gotta love it :)

Well, my cold/flu hasn’t been going away at all and now I have been told by the boss to take time off to sort it out rather than pass it along to other people at the office.

So, I’m at home, snotty nose, failing voice and a massive sinus headache all on my lonesome. At least I am getting some serious sleep in - which can only help. I think I may need to go to the doctor and get some kickass medication.

I hope I am ok by Monday next week, as I will now have two days worth of stuff to catch up on - which is going to be a mission and a half already.
